HOUSTON DRAGON BOAT ENJOYS SUCCESSFUL 5TH ANNUAL EVENT

HOUSTON, TX – With 5000 people in attendance on Saturday, May 7, the 5th Annual Houston Dragon Boat Festival at Allen's Landing in downtown Houston is establishing itself as an annual tradition. 

The mission of the Texas Dragon Boat Association is to promote the tradition and sport of Dragon Boating, increase awareness of Asian and Asian-American culture, and enhance cross-cultural understanding.  Cultural entertainment, vendors, Wal-Mart’s Kids Zone, and Asian food booths were on hand in addition to the 27 dragon boat races that took place all day. 

Asia Society Texas won the Dragon Cup in the competitive championship round.  Taking second place was Continental Airlines, with the Houston Police Department finishing a close third.

The Texas Dragon Boat Association is now making plans for the 2nd Gulf Coast International Dragon Boat Regatta, which is officially sanctioned as the 2005 American Dragon Boat Association Central Region Championship, to be held on October 22 & 23, 2005 at Clear Lake Park.
