Texas Dragon Boat Association Announces Honorary Co-Chairs of 7th Annual Houston Dragon Boat Festival

HOUSTON (February 5, 2007) --The Texas Dragon Boat Association (TDBA) is pleased to name Michael McCulley, President and CEO, United Space Alliance, and Oliver Luck, President and General Manager, Houston Dynamo as Honorary Co-Chairs of the 4th Annual Gulf Coast International Dragon Boat Regatta.

A retired U.S. Navy captain and a former NASA astronaut, McCulley piloted the highly successful STS-34 Shuttle mission in October 1989. Following his retirement from NASA and the Navy in 1990, he began work for Lockheed Martin space Operations and served as vice president and launch site director at the Kennedy Space Center.

Luck previously served as the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority CEO where he oversaw operations for the organization. A record-setting quarterback at West Virginia University, Luck was selected in the second round of the 1982 NFL Draft by the Houston Oilers. He went on to play five seasons with the club.

“We are honored to have Mr. McCulley and Mr. Luck serve as Honorary Co-chairs for our October Regatta,” said TDBA President and Executive Director Dr. Caroline Long. “We look forward to an exciting competition this fall.”

The Regatta will take place Saturday-Sunday, October 20-21, 2007 at Clear Lake Park.  Corporate, breast cancer survivor, community and youth teams will compete for the Gulf Coast Cup, International Cup, Texas Cup, Lone Star Cup, Bay Area Cup, Energy Cup, Youth Cup, Breast Cancer Survivor Cup, and other top awards. The event features live cultural performances including music, dance, children's activities and a variety of Asian and American cuisine. Admission is free.
