Honorary Chairs Named For 6th Annual Gulf Coast International Dragon Boat Regatta Celebrating City Of Sugar Land’s 50th Anniversary


September 5, 2009, Houston, Texas – The Texas Dragon Boat Association (TDBA) is pleased to announce the Honorary Co-Chairs for the 2009 Gulf Coast International Dragon Boat Regatta: City of Sugar Land Mayor James Thompson, First Colony Community Association Board Member Ms. Joyce Walter, and Ms. Chinatown Houston, Angela Wang.

This annual event, taking place the weekend of October 17-18, will be held at Brooks Lake @ Fluor Corporation in Sugar Land. Up to 40 competing teams are expected Including corporate, community, youth and breast cancer survivor teams, as well as visiting teams from Los Angeles County, city of Austin, and Louisiana.

Multiple heats will be run in divisions for both recreational and competitive teams. The teams - comprised of men, women, mixed and youth crews- are all helping TDBA reach its goals to launch a year-round boating program for youth teams and to build a TDBA boathouse in Sugar Land.

A sincere thank you to the City of Sugar Land, Fluor Corporation, Planned Community Development, and First Colony Community Association for making this event possible. The Texas Dragon Boat Association is a 501(c)(3) Texas non-profit corporation established to promote the tradition and sport of dragon boating, increase awareness of Asian and Asian American culture, and enhance cross-cultural understanding. TDBA organizes the Houston Dragon Boat Festival in downtown Houston each May and the Gulf Coast International Dragon Boat Regatta in Bay Area Houston each October.

The American Dragon Boat Association is a volunteer organization dedicated to the promotion of friendship, fun, and education between teams and communities. Its mission is to promote cultural understanding on a worldwide basis and educate the public to the benefits of working together through the sport of dragon boat racing.
