Houston, TX (February 17, 2010) – The Texas Dragon Boat Association, in collaboration with the Buffalo Bayou Partnership, is pleased to announce that Pam Gardner, President of Business Operations for the Houston Astros, and Harry Gee, community leader and attorney, will serve as this May’s Festival Honorary Co-Chairs. Houston Mayor Annise Parker will provide the keynote address, and KTRK ABC-13’s Miya Shay will serve as emcee of the Opening Ceremony.
“The Astros are proud to be a part of the 10th Annual Houston Dragon Boat Festival,” said Ms. Gardner. “We love the unique combination of culture, teamwork and community spirit that makes this downtown event so memorable for participants and observers alike. This is a fun and welcoming Festival that celebrates all of Houston.”
"In the ten years since I've been supporting the Festival, I have seen it grow into a diverse downtown cultural and sporting event with broad appeal," remarked Harry Gee, Jr. "I applaud the Texas Dragon Boat Association for its commitment to cross-cultural exchange by promoting this ancient tradition and engaging so many in our diverse Houston community."
Corporate, community, breast cancer survivor, and youth teams from across the country will compete in multiple heats throughout the day. Live cultural performances, Asian and other festival fare, and plenty of children’s activities will be available. Teams are forming now.
